Fractir uses encrypted vaults and distributed key shares to protect your files.

The guides below show how to create a vault and how to recover your data when needed.

Create a Vault

A vault is an encrypted container that stores your sensitive files. When you create a vault, Fractir encrypts its contents locally on your device and splits the encryption key into multiple key shares.

These shares must be stored separately. No single share can unlock the vault on its own, which removes any single point of compromise.

Recover Files

To recover your vault, you must provide the required number of key shares. Once the threshold is met, Fractir reconstructs the encryption key and unlocks the vault locally.

All recovery happens offline, and your files never leave your device.

Important Notes

• Each key share is only a fragment of the vault’s encryption key. A single share cannot unlock the vault.
• Store your shares in separate secure locations to reduce risk.
• If too many shares are lost, the vault cannot be recovered.
• Fractir performs all encryption and recovery locally on your device.
